Bradfield College Squash Courts LED Lighting Upgrade Case Study

Bradfield College approached Wirefield looking to relight their squash courts with a new energy efficient LED solution.

For many years Wirefield have been synonymous with providing luminaires for harsh environments. Whilst this normally means car park or factory environmnents, a squash court can prove just as challenging to relight. Bradfield College approached Wirefield looking to replace the lighting in their six squash courts with a new LED solution. The existing 2x70w T8 lighting had become inefficent and expensive to relamp due to the mounting height.

Wirefield Proposal and Solution

  • Upgrade to the latest in LED technology. By using the Crux luminaire the running wattage could be reduced from 166w per luminaire to under 100w.
  • Use a fitting with an opal lens to minimise glare for users of the squash court.
  • Provide a wire guard capable to resisting the impact of a squash ball. The standard wire guard would not have been suitable in this environment and it was very important to the client that the luminaire was protected in the correct way.
  • Upgrade to 4000k colour temperature to improve the playing environment for all players.
  • Achieve a 62% annual saving. The Wirefield solution not only saved energy but is estimated to have saved the client nearly £1000 in reduced maintenance costs.
